Favourite Images

For one reason or another, these are my personal favourite photos!

Adult Peregrine Falcon - Niagara Falls, Ontario

June 10, 2006

Photographing Peregrine Falcons at Niagara Falls is easily one of my favourite photography destinations. They're my favourite birds and often very cooperative. My Dad and I have spent many days there, seeing lots of incredible things! Not to mention the frequent humorous encounters with tourists...

Adult Ivory Gull - Goose Cove, Newfoundland

February 19, 2010

A two month trip to Newfoundland in 2010 ended with a "dream come true" experience with Ivory Gulls and Gyrfalcons on the northern peninsula of the province. This image ended up being my favourite of 8000 taken that week, capturing the beauty of the bird and the snow covered cliffs reaching into the cold Atlantic waters.

Green Heron - Green Cay Nature Center, Florida

March 11, 2009

I love colour and texture, which "pops" in good light. There is something very rewarding to making an "outside the box" type of image that you feel really "works".

Early Spring Canada Goose Pair - Grimsby, Ontario

March 11, 2005

One of my older favourites, it shows how just being out in the field can produce great pictures. Early March is nearing the end of the slowest time of year for birding in Ontario

Male Cerulean Warbler - Point Pelee, Ontario

May 6, 2006

One of my first warbler photos that I was truly happy with, it happened to be one of the most spectacular species. This picture is the embodiment of spring magic at Point Pelee (for me)

Burrowing Owl, Sunset Blaze - Cape Coral, Florida

March 4, 2009

Colour. Honest, natural colour! It is easy to make a picture look like this in photoshop these days, but it feels great to create something unique without having to use it.

Kirtland's Warbler - Point Pelee, Ontario

May 15, 2008

Another image that captures the magic of Point Pelee for me, this male Kirtland's Warbler was my first Kirtland's that I found on my own! The holy grail of warblers, it was also the 300th species I had "self-found" in Ontario, and thankfully very cooperative for photos.

Sandhill Crane - Boynton Beach, Florida

March 10, 2009

I enjoy trying to be creative with my photography, but it took 500 photos with this Sandhill Crane to notice the stunning pattern on the top of its head. So I needed more to capture it!

Greater Scaup - Burlington, Ontario

January 25, 2009

One of my favourite photography days, and an iconic image for me; it was COLD. Thousands of ducks to photograph, all to myself, and lots of great pictures

Cedar Waxwings - Burlington, Ontario

March 27, 2008

I'm drawn to photos with two birds in the same frame, but a photo often becomes a "favourite" when everything falls into place. Light, scene, perch, posture, action etc.

Juvenile Peregrine Falcon - Niagara Falls, Ontario

June 27, 2008

A final image, again of my favourite species! There is something almost surreal about how this image came together, and sticks as one of my favourite images.
